PET TRAVEL SCHEME

– entering France or the EU from the UK

The first requirements for your pet are a microchip and a valid rabies vaccination.

For leaving and entering the UK, British pets need an International Health Certificate from their veterinarian, issued and signed no more than 10 days before leaving the UK. The AHC has a validity of 3 months. Attention: since January 2021 the ancient UK European Passports aren’t valid any longer.

There is one exception for pet owners who have a second residency in France. If the animal stays longer than 3 consecutive months in France, the veterinarian is allowed to deliver a French Passport. In this case the animal doesn’t need an AHC any longer when travelling to and from the UK.

A worming treatment (praziquantel tablets) has to be administered by an official veterinarian between 24h and 120h (5 days) before travelling to the UK. Tick treatment for pets returning to the UK is no longer required.

Our consultation fee is 39.00€ and the price of the worming tablet will depend on the weight of your dog (generally between 5 and 20€).

Our veterinarians will fill in the AHC or your pet’s Passport in order to help you travel carelessly back home.

PET TRAVEL CHECK LIST

  • Is your pet identified with a microchip ?

  • Ensure your pet’s vaccinations are up-to-date before you’re leaving. A vaccination against rabies is obligated and after the vaccination you must wait 21 days before travelling to France or any other European country.

  • Does your pet have a valid European Pet Passport or an International Health Certificate (AHC)? Important: European Passports delivered in the UK are not valid anymore in the EU!

  • Even if it’s no longer obligated: check if your pet is treated against ticks and flees before you’re leaving. Also, it’s better to give them a worming tablet a few days before leaving.

  • If you want to return to the UK from France (or the EU), your pet must have been treated against tapeworm no less than 24 hours and no more than 5 days before travelling to the UK by a registered vet.
